Katie Dalzell

Katie was first introduced to Pilates while rehabbing a dance injury in New York City in 2005.  From there she continued to feed the inquisitiveness that brought her back to Pilates frequently.  By 2007 Katie had undergone a rigorous 475-hour training program led by Angelie Melzer through Team Pilates ® (now a Balanced Body ® affiliate) and earned her Pilates Method Alliance certification in 2008.  Katie’s initial training follows a contemporary approach to the Pilates Method with choreographic movements and a rehabilitative embrace to Joseph Pilates’ regimen. In an effort to gain proficiency within the method, Katie earned a second certification through Alycea Ungaro’s Real Pilates in 2022.  This comprehensive program identifies Katie as a third generation classical Pilates instructor.

Over the years of continuing education, research, teaching experience, and influence of surrounding colleagues, Katie has found her groove of instruction leaning toward the classical Pilates Method sprinkled with her contemporary roots and choreographic desire.  Katie’s equipment classes are ever evolving yet consistently touch back to the classical Pilates method. When in a private or small group session, the student(s) will experience an individualized sequence of movements to achieve awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses in order to progress to their optimal fitness and health.  Katie’s lively personality added with attention to detail and love of anatomy enhances the students’ experience while under her instruction.

Katie has worked with a wide variety of bodies over the years including (but not limited to) professional dancers and athletes, children, seniors, musicians, opera singers, people with scoliosis, multiple sclerosis, lung disease, cancer survivors, those with PTSD, mental health conditions, and every ailment in between.  Each of these bodies have their own hurdles and appeals that have made each hour of instruction an enchanting experience for Katie and the client alike.  It is the progress and the achievement of a stronger body that drives Katie to continue with Pilates.
